Job Title: Assistant Principal

KIPP Memphis Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Principal to join our team. As a key member of our school's leadership team, the Assistant Principal will play a critical role in driving academic and character outcomes for our students.

Job Summary

The Assistant Principal will support the school in achieving its mission to create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students for college, career, and beyond. This includes leading instruction and school culture, developing leadership among emerging leaders, and contributing to school-wide planning and goal setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vision and Goal Setting: Support the development of the school leader's school-wide vision and take an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve collective goals.
  • School Operations: Manage parts of the daily school operations, including arrival and dismissal, lunch and recess, and school trips.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Collaborate with the school leader on hiring diverse and highly effective teachers and staff, build instructional knowledge of standards and content, and develop deep mastery over academic standards.
  • Data Analysis: Lead data-driven instruction, help teachers analyze data to inform instruction, and identify specific instructional actions to fill student knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Teacher Instructional Development: Provide high-quality instructional coaching, coach emerging leaders, and lead department/content/grade-level meetings to focus on planning and norming on instruction and culture.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Education or related field required.
  • Valid Tennessee Professional Certification at Level 4 or higher in a teaching or service field and in Educational Leadership.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a teacher, counselor, instructional coach, or similar role in a K-12 educational setting.

  • Belief that all students, regardless of background, have the ability to go to and through college.
  • Ability to set direction for a team and motivate others to action.
  • Demonstrated student achievement results in own classroom and from teachers that he/she manages.
  • Adept at data analysis; ability to extract meaningful insights across school-wide data.
  • Expertise in what academic standards and state assessments require of students' knowledge and skills to demonstrate mastery.
