Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Out-of-School Program Teacher to join our team at Children Mending Hearts. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on sports and a passion for inspiring and engaging youth in physical activity after school hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Delivery: Plan and lead sports activities for children and youth in an after-school setting, ensuring activities are age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with program goals.
  • Teamwork & Skill Development: Teach students essential skills such as teamwork, communication, discipline, and leadership through sports.
  • Physical Fitness: Encourage students to improve their physical health, coordination, and overall fitness through active participation in sports and games.
  • Classroom Management: Manage student behavior, resolve conflicts, and ensure that activities run smoothly to maintain a positive and safe environment.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire a love of sports and physical activity, encouraging students to try new sports and develop their skills over time.
  • Parent Communication: Regularly communicate with parents or guardians, providing updates on their child's progress and behavior.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure all sports activities meet safety standards and follow the organization's health, safety, and behavior management policies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other program staff to integrate sports with broader educational goals and social-emotional development initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in education, physical education, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: Prior experience working with children or youth in a teaching or coaching capacity, ideally in an out-of-school or after-school program.
  • Sports Knowledge: Strong understanding of a variety of sports (e.g., soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc.) and the ability to teach basic skills and rules to students.
  • Classroom Management: Strong classroom management skills with the ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Passion for Youth Development: A commitment to fostering a love for sports, physical activity, and healthy lifestyles in students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual: Bilingual (English and [Insert Language]) proficiency.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification: CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Knowledge of Child Development: Knowledge of child development and the ability to design age-appropriate sports activities.
