Job Summary

The Child Nutrition Worker is responsible for managing the Child Nutrition Program, ensuring the preparation and serving of nutritious meals that meet state and USDA standards. This role requires excellent customer service skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in the safe and efficient use of kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and maintain orderly, safe, and sanitary conditions in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Order and determine quantities of foods to be prepared daily according to standardized menus.
  • Verify orders accurately and in a timely manner, reporting any discrepancies to the appropriate person.
  • Report any problems or on-the-job injuries occurring in the kitchen or cafeteria to the School Administrator and CNP Director.
  • Collaborate with these individuals regarding personnel problems or conflicts.
  • Maintain working knowledge of kitchen equipment and alert the Maintenance Supervisor and CNP Director of any non-working equipment.
  • Train and supervise staff to achieve efficiency in food preparation, service, and replenishment of the serving line.
  • Coordinate food preparation for timely meal service, direct disposal and storage of leftover items, and follow all verbal and written instructions.
  • Promote good public relations and provide cordial and professional service.
  • Maintain records as required by the Child Nutrition Program.
  • Display good personal grooming and appropriate dress for food service and enforce compliance among CNP staff.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Understand and comply with Cherokee County Board of Education policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues, records, student eligibility, and school-related information.
  • Work toward and achieve Professional Development Hours in compliance with state and USDA Professional Standards in Child Nutrition requirements and attend required training.
Requirements
  • High School Graduate or equivalent (GED) and academic competence in basic skills.
  • Good physical and emotional health, including the ability to perform duties described in essential functions.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 40 lbs. unassisted; work in a standing position for prolonged periods of time; walk, balance, bend, and kneel.
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy and willingness to use a point-of-sale system and email.
  • Capable of being trained in safe food handling techniques.
  • Ability to communicate and comprehend verbal and written instructions.
  • Capability to maintain emotional control.
Working Conditions

The Child Nutrition Worker will work in an environment that may include conditions such as slippery surfaces, use of chemicals, exposure to common food allergens, and extreme hot and cold temperatures.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is according to the Cherokee County Schools Salary Schedule.
