Program Overview
Piedmont's Nurse Residency Program is a comprehensive, 12-month transition-to-practice program designed to facilitate the progress of new graduate nurses from student to professional nurse. The program combines precepted orientation with blended learning experiences, led by dedicated preceptors, to teach the knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to continuously improve quality and safety at the point of care.
Key Program Components
- Develop clinical judgment to rapidly recognize changes in patient condition and urgency of clinical situations
- Cultivate excellent communication skills to engage with colleagues and support patients
- Participate in cohort experiences to promote peer and professional socialization and strengthen professional commitment to nursing
- Learn didactic content tailored to new graduates from professional nursing organizations

Responsibilities
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. He/she functions within the framework of the organization's policies and procedures and demonstrates professional growth and accountability.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a nursing program
- New Graduates of a nursing program eligible
- Current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse
- BLS certification required
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable
