Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Senior Government Relations Specialist to join our team at the Basic Education Coalition in Washington, D.C. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for advancing the Coalition's objectives and developing effective policy and advocacy strategies.

About the Position

This is a full-time position based in Washington, D.C. and reports directly to the Co-Chairs of the Basic Education Coalition Board of Directors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in U.S. government policy, international education, and coalition management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a robust network of champions within Congress and the administration, particularly within USAID's Center for Education.
  • Develop and implement an annual policy and advocacy strategy to secure U.S. funding for international basic education, advance relevant legislation on Capitol Hill, and cultivate champions for international basic education.
  • Monitor and analyze relevant legislation and policies from the administration, providing legislative analysis, policy backgrounders, and internal communications as needed.
  • Cultivate relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocates, and experts in the field of international education.
  • Represent the Coalition at events and meetings held by other organizations, Congress, and the administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 5 years of relevant policy, advocacy, or legislative work experience in the field of international education.
  • Proven ability to design and implement policy and advocacy goals and strategies.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including comfort with public speaking.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.

Benefits

The Basic Education Coalition provides a competitive salary range of $90,000 - $130,000 annually, depending on experience. Benefits include medical insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
