About This Position
The iShares Capital Markets team within BlackRock is dedicated to enhancing and safeguarding the trading activities of the US iShares product range. Our focus is on leading all facets of both primary and secondary market ETF trading. Furthermore, we collaborate with ETF market participants, including liquidity providers, exchanges, and regulatory bodies, to fortify and advance the ETF trading landscape.
Your Role and Influence
This position encompasses a diverse array of responsibilities, where the individual will provide strategic direction in recognizing, initiating, and executing projects aimed at improving market quality for ETFs, primarily concentrating on reducing trading obstacles within the ETF trading environment. In addition to spearheading vital initiatives, the role includes overseeing daily order management and risk oversight of the ETF Primary Market platform. This individual will serve as a liaison between external trading entities, market infrastructure, and portfolio management. A strategic mindset, exceptional collaborative abilities, and the capacity to engage with a wide range of stakeholders are essential for success in this role. The individual will be responsible for analyzing and comprehending the technical intricacies of ETF trading across various asset classes. Protecting the primary market platform through effective risk management is a fundamental aspect of this position; the individual will need to respond to a variety of market events and disruptions, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure and a comprehensive understanding of risks across the organization to effectively implement solutions. This role will also involve close collaboration with internal teams and external ETF liquidity providers to advance critical initiatives, identify trading challenges, and explore opportunities to enhance participation and strengthen the ETF ecosystem.
Your Responsibilities
- Act as a risk manager, ensuring the protection of our ETFs and their investors.
- Serve as an ETF trading expert, showcasing extensive product knowledge to facilitate efficient ETF trading and distinguish iShares from competing funds and investment vehicles.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with ETF market participants, such as Authorized Participants and Market Makers.
- Lead the identification and evaluation of trading obstacles and inefficiencies impacting ETF market quality.
- Design and execute strategic initiatives to enhance the ETF trading ecosystem.
- Collaborate with external liquidity providers to strengthen those relationships and collectively develop strategies that enhance ETF trading efficiency.
- Partner with internal stakeholders, including product development teams and portfolio managers, to implement improvements in product design and trading operations.
- Work with technology and platform teams to manage and support a global technology pipeline, testing and implementing key enhancements to our primary market platform.
- Gather, analyze, and derive insights from ETF trading data to produce relevant market content.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field; CFA designation is a plus.
- 5-7 years of industry experience with a solid understanding of trading and market infrastructure.
- Series 7 and 63 licenses required (may be obtained post-hire).
- Strong strategic mindset to identify long-term solutions or enhancements in existing processes.
- Project management skills to ensure the successful execution of initiatives.
- Risk management orientation, capable of identifying downstream implications and proactively addressing vulnerabilities.
- High motivation, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to perform well under time constraints.
- High degree of professional discretion, accountability, and judgment; adaptability and flexibility are crucial in a team setting.
- Proven relationship-building skills, particularly in influencing and listening to individuals across various functions and levels of seniority.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; the ability to convey information clearly and accurately to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders is essential.
- Prior experience in the ETF industry or trading is desirable.
