Position Overview:
As an Underground Utility Locator Specialist, you will leverage advanced mapping technologies and specialized tools to accurately identify and mark underground utilities, including cables and pipes, to prevent potential damages and ensure public safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Responding to Requests and Emergencies:
    Travel to various locations in response to routine requests and urgent situations, ensuring timely and effective service.
  2. Utilizing Mapping Tools and Equipment:
    Employ provided mapping tools and specialized equipment to locate underground utilities such as electrical lines, gas pipelines, and communication networks.
  3. Marking Utility Locations:
    Clearly indicate the locations of utilities using paint and flags, and communicate essential information to excavation teams and relevant authorities.
  4. Handling After-Hours Call-Outs:
    Be available for after-hours emergency call-outs as per the established rotation, maintaining regular communication with utility managers and contractors.
  5. Prioritizing Work and Interpreting Maps:
    Assess and prioritize locate requests, effectively reading and interpreting utility maps to identify underground infrastructure.
  6. Field Environment Work:
    Spend the majority of work hours in the field, performing utility locates in diverse environments while navigating potential hazards.
  7. Using Specialized Equipment:
    Conduct utility locates by transmitting signals onto underground utilities and tracing their paths using specialized equipment, ensuring accurate identification.

Equipment Provided:
Each Locator Specialist will receive:
- Company vehicle
- Laptop computer
- Digital camera
- Cell phone
- Broadband internet device
- Utility locating equipment (approximately 15 pounds)

Status & Schedule:
This is a full-time role, operating Monday through Friday with potential overtime as required.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid, unexpired Driver's License
- Previous experience in field-based roles is preferred.

Additional Skills:
- Previous utility locating or damage prevention experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Technical aptitude and familiarity with technology are important.
- Ability to adapt to varying weather conditions and job sites.

Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with team members and clients.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves walking, standing, and lifting, with the expectation to traverse 3-5 miles outdoors in various environments.
