Rapid City Medical Center is in search of a dedicated Referral Specialist to join our Gastrointestinal Department. This full-time position involves a variety of responsibilities, including the management of incoming referrals, dispatching procedure intakes, and the preparation and mailing of procedure letters. The successful candidate will also be responsible for scheduling follow-up appointments, including post-hospital and recheck visits. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate appointment scheduling with RCMC providers upon request from other providers.
  • Assist in arranging appointments with external providers when necessary.
  • Schedule ancillary appointments within the RCMC network as appropriate.
  • Gather and compile medical records information required for referred patients.
  • Follow up with patients regarding appointment details and necessary information.
  • Facilitate prior authorizations when needed, ensuring the prior authorization nurse receives the required information or completing the authorizations directly.
  • Regularly update RCMC providers about available services and actively promote these services to in-house providers.
  • Ensure that informational brochures about RCMC services are adequately stocked in all departments.
  • Electronically send all referral documents to providers when applicable to meet Meaningful Use criteria.
  • Utilize customer service techniques to engage with patients in a calm and pleasant manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or GED required.

Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare organization.

Work Environment: Medical office setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases and other clinic-related conditions.

Physical and Mental Demands: The role primarily involves sitting (90%) with some walking or standing (10%) and repetitive data entry tasks. The employee must effectively manage the demands of multiple providers simultaneously while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
