Rapid City Medical Center is looking for a dedicated Referral Specialist to join our Gastroenterology Department. The role involves managing the scheduling of incoming referrals, dispatching procedure intakes, and preparing and mailing procedure correspondence. The successful candidate will also coordinate post-hospital and follow-up appointments. Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate appointment scheduling with RCMC providers as requested by other providers.
  • Assist in arranging appointments with external providers when necessary.
  • Schedule ancillary appointments within the RCMC network as appropriate.
  • Gather and compile medical records information required for referrals.
  • Follow up with patients regarding appointment details and other essential information.
  • Facilitate prior authorizations when needed, providing necessary information to the prior authorization nurse or completing the authorizations directly.
  • Keep RCMC providers informed about services available within the organization and actively promote these services to in-house providers.
  • Ensure that informational brochures about RCMC services are well-stocked in all departments.
  • Send referral documents electronically to providers when applicable to comply with Meaningful Use standards.
  • Utilize customer service techniques to interact with patients in a calm and pleasant manner.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare organization preferred.

Work Environment:
Medical office setting with potential exposure to communicable diseases and other clinic-related conditions.

Physical and Mental Demands:
Daily activities primarily involve sitting (90%) with some walking or standing (10%) and repetitive data entry tasks. The candidate must be able to manage the demands of multiple providers simultaneously while maintaining professionalism and a positive attitude.
