Job Summary:
This position requires on-site presence. Lifeguards are essential in ensuring a secure environment for families and children. They are pivotal in upholding our safety standards, acting as first responders during emergencies, maintaining safety equipment, and collaborating within a proactive and dynamic team.

As a lifeguard, you will foster a safe and welcoming atmosphere that encourages member safety and participation in alignment with YMCA policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe swimming conditions in the pool, on deck, and surrounding areas.
- Prevent accidents through vigilant observation of the pool area, enforcing health and safety regulations, and maintaining readiness for emergencies.
- Perform rescues and administer first aid or CPR as needed, utilizing training and available medical supplies.
- Conduct equipment checks and ensure necessary equipment is readily available, promptly reporting any issues.
- Provide exceptional customer service to members, program participants, and guests at all times.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
- Conduct poolside chemical testing.
- Set up and store equipment for recreational swimming.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

Impact on Results:
Maintaining the pool, deck, and surrounding areas ensures safety for all program participants.

Qualifications:
- Certification facilitation is available for those not yet certified; we encourage interested candidates to apply.
- Must be at least 16 years old for part-time roles and 18 years old for full-time roles.
- Current lifeguard certification from a recognized organization (e.g., Red Cross).
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Current Administering Emergency Oxygen Certification.
- Strong swimming skills.
- Must demonstrate keen observation skills and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Ability to maintain the physical and mental readiness required for certification.
- Ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
- Proficiency in any language in addition to English is advantageous.
