The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is seeking applications for the following position:

Position: Community Center Supervisor (Part-Time)
Department: Recreation
Position Type: Part-Time
Salary Range: $18.75 to $20.00 per hour
Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 years old.

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD) has been a vital service provider to the community for over sixty years. As an independent government entity, GVRD oversees a variety of public spaces, including parks and community centers, ensuring they are well-maintained and accessible to residents.

Job Overview

Under general supervision, the Community Center Supervisor is responsible for preparing community centers for public use, overseeing scheduled activities to ensure adherence to district policies, providing information to visitors, and performing various technical tasks related to the role.

Supervision

This position receives general oversight from the Recreation Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities

Essential functions of the role include, but are not limited to:

  1. Ensuring that all rooms are clean and free from safety hazards, including the setup and breakdown of tables and chairs.
  2. Assisting visitors and renters with equipment setup and addressing general service requests.
  3. Securing the facility during opening and closing hours, including setting alarms as necessary.
  4. Engaging with the public and program participants to monitor activities and enforce compliance with district regulations.
  5. Conducting inspections of the building and performing custodial duties.
  6. Handling office tasks such as answering inquiries, providing rental information, processing forms, and conducting facility tours.
  7. Utilizing the PEAK computer registration system for class and event management, including financial transactions.
  8. Verifying daily activity schedules to confirm room reservations.
  9. Collaborating with contracted services, including security personnel and instructors.
  10. Responding to emergencies and notifying appropriate services when necessary.
  11. Identifying and reporting safety and sanitary hazards.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:
  1. Operational methods and equipment used in custodial services.
  2. Standard office procedures and safety practices.
  3. Customer service principles.
  4. Office software systems and online registration programs.

Ability to:
  1. Effectively interact with diverse groups and respond to sensitive situations.
  2. Prepare clear and concise reports.
  3. Work independently without direct supervision.
  4. Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
  5. Establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  6. Perform custodial tasks and facility setup as required.
  7. Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  8. Complete financial documentation and manage deposits.

Environmental Conditions:
Office and community center settings with potential exposure to challenging participants.

Physical Requirements:
Essential functions may require maintaining physical stamina for lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. Specific physical demands include:
  • Standing: up to 2/3 of working time.
  • Walking: up to 2/3 of working time during events.
  • Sitting: up to 1/3 of working time.
  • Lifting up to 25 lbs: over 2/3 of working time.
  • Lifting over 25 lbs: up to 1/3 of working time.
  • Climbing and balancing: up to 2/3 of working time.
  • Stooping, kneeling, and crouching: up to 1/3 of working time.
