Position Overview:
As a key member of the maintenance team, the Senior Building Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of campus facilities. This position involves a variety of construction and maintenance tasks across multiple trades, including carpentry, painting, and signage.

UC Santa Cruz Main Campus

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Construction Maintenance (80%):
    Under the guidance of the Carpenter Shop Supervisor, the incumbent will engage in minor remodeling and construction activities, including:
    • Constructing and repairing walls, windows, and ceilings.
    • Assisting in the removal of existing structures.
    • Performing rough and finishing work for new construction projects.
    • Executing basic mathematical calculations for measurements and timekeeping.
    • Hanging metal and wood doors.
    • Assisting with concrete forming and pouring.
    • Conducting preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.
  2. Maintenance & Repairs (10%):
    This role includes maintenance and repair tasks such as:
    • Patching walls and roofs, and repairing or replacing doors and windows.
    • Replacing broken hardware and bathroom fixtures.
    • Providing support to the Lock Shop with key cutting and door hardware maintenance.
    • Assisting the Sign Shop with installation and maintenance of signage.
    • Helping the Paint Shop with graffiti removal and general upkeep.
  3. Shop Work (10%):
    Engaging in millwork and shop activities, including:
    • Utilizing power tools and equipment safely under supervision.
    • Inspecting and maintaining shop tools and equipment.
    • Collaborating with other trades personnel as required.

Qualifications:
Candidates should possess:
  • Strong ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
  • Basic mathematical skills for construction-related tasks.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively engage with the campus community.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures for hand and power tools.
  • Experience in general construction techniques, including framing and installation.

Preferred Skills:
Basic computer skills and familiarity with work order tracking software are advantageous.

Special Conditions:
Selected candidates must pass a background check and possess a valid driver's license. Physical demands include the ability to lift materials up to 100 lbs and work in various environments. Compliance with safety protocols and training is mandatory.
