Position Overview:

The Senior Building Maintenance Specialist is responsible for executing a variety of minor renovations, fundamental construction tasks, and maintenance duties within the Structural Trades departments, including Carpentry, Lock, Paint, and Sign Shops, under the close guidance of the Carpenter Shop Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Construction Maintenance (80%):
    Engage in minor renovations and construction tasks, including:
    • Building and repairing walls, windows, floors, ceilings, and roofs.
    • Assisting carpenters in dismantling existing structures.
    • Performing rough and finishing work for new constructions.
    • Conducting basic mathematical calculations for measurements and time-keeping.
    • Hanging metal and wooden doors.
    • Executing minor concrete forming and pouring tasks.
    • Supporting preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.
  • Maintenance & Repairs (10%):
    Conduct maintenance and repair tasks for campus facilities, including:
    • Patching walls and roofs, repairing or replacing doors and windows.
    • Replacing broken hardware and bathroom fixtures not requiring plumbing services.
    • Utilizing various caulking and roofing materials.
    • Assisting the Lock Shop with key cutting and door hardware maintenance.
    • Supporting the Sign Shop with installation and maintenance tasks.
    • Helping the Paint Shop with graffiti removal.
  • Shop Work (10%):
    Perform millwork using power tools and equipment, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, including:
    • Inspecting and repairing shop tools and equipment.
    • Collaborating with other trade personnel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Demonstrated creativity and initiative in work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration.
  • Capability to work in occupied environments without causing disruptions.
  • Proficient in documenting daily tasks performed.
  • Valid driver's license for operating vehicles.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and the use of various hand and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of general construction techniques.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with email and word processing software.
  • Willingness to learn and utilize work order tracking software.

Working Conditions:

Selected candidates will undergo a pre-employment background check and must be able to lift materials weighing up to 100 lbs. Overtime may be required, including evenings and weekends, to meet operational needs. Compliance with safety training and health protocols is mandatory.
