This role involves contributing to the design and modification of industrial sectors within the energy, manufacturing, and processing industries. Key responsibilities include the analysis and detailed design of structural frameworks, including steel and concrete structures, conducting engineering cost assessments, and collaborating with various engineering disciplines such as mechanical and electrical teams. The Lead Engineer will conduct site visits to assess field conditions, identify design limitations, and address construction-related challenges.

This is a full-time position based in our office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Principal Structural Engineer will excel in producing engineering calculations and sketches; reviewing technical drawings; developing project proposals, scopes, and budgets; generating specifications and technical documentation; and guiding design teams in the creation of drawings and other engineering outputs. The Engineer will effectively utilize engineering software tools and exhibit strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. As a design expert, this individual will be accountable for delivering innovative and cost-efficient designs, drawings, and specifications with a focus on client satisfaction.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Application of engineering and construction expertise:
  • Develop comprehensive structural designs for various systems in accordance with relevant building and material codes, typically involving steel, concrete, or a combination of both.
  • Formulate design concepts and recommend suitable structural support and foundation systems.
  • Assess existing concrete and steel structures, providing detailed reports on deficiencies for client review, and suggesting non-destructive or destructive testing for further analysis.
  • Design:
  • Prepare clear, complete, and concise calculations, including software analysis models, and provide necessary connection designs.
  • Coordinate efforts with other engineering disciplines, performing interdisciplinary checks to minimize errors and omissions in engineering deliverables.
  • Establish design criteria for all assigned projects, ensuring compliance with project and client specifications.
  • Produce well-organized structural engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Engage in bid reviews as necessary and participate in design reviews at various project stages.
  • Construction Support:
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with specifications promptly.
  • Take part in relevant preconstruction meetings.
  • Conduct site visits and prepare observation reports documenting progress and issues.
  • Review all structural-related testing and inspection reports.
  • Address all Requests for Information (RFIs) and provide necessary construction support.
  • Profitability/Planning/Scheduling:
  • Define project scope, budget, and schedule estimates for proposal development.
  • Monitor project progress and keep informed of deadlines, advising the technical lead on resource needs to meet project timelines.
  • Leadership:
  • Oversee structural staff under their guidance.
  • Act as the structural engineering subject matter expert in applying advanced concepts, principles, and methods.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers to support their professional growth.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • A minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in industrial and manufacturing environments.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Proficiency in MS Office, MathCAD, SAP 2000, SAFE, AutoCAD, PIP, ACI, ASCE-7, and IBC.
  • Client projects necessitate site visits to gather project information, which may involve climbing ladders and stairs.
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.
