Job Summary

The Medical Office Assistant - Clinical Support Professional at Mount Sinai Health System provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and surgeons. This role involves assisting in patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical assisting and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

Assist in patient care responsibilities, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.
Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing, and collect and process specimens and point-of-care testing.
Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
Answer calls and provide pertinent information.

Clerical Responsibilities

Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
Complete forms and requisitions as needed, manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests on behalf of the physician for review and approval.

Additional Responsibilities

Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
Provide set-up of examination rooms and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques established by hospital and infection control policies.
Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point-of-care testing, sterilization processes, and crash carts.
Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately according to institution policy.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED.
Two years of experience working as a medical assistant.
Some relevant medical office/phlebotomy experience is desirable. Venipuncture and EKG skills are required.
Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school and Heartsaver Certification from the American Heart Association and/or BCLS are preferred.
