Job Description

As a key member of the Humana team, the Director of State Affairs and Policy will play a critical role in shaping the company's public policy agenda and advancing its business objectives in the state government arena.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in state government, government affairs, campaigns, health policy, and/or advocacy roles, with a proven track record of creating and implementing effective advocacy campaigns that achieve short- and long-term milestones.

The Director will be responsible for leading Humana's state advocacy and government engagement efforts in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, working closely with state government officials, trade associations, and other stakeholders to advance the company's interests.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing state-level advocacy strategies to advance Humana's public policy agenda and business objectives
  • Building and maintaining relationships with state government officials, trade associations, and other stakeholders
  • Providing strategic guidance and support to Humana's state market leaders and functional areas on public policy and regulatory issues
  • Monitoring and analyzing state-level legislative and regulatory developments that impact Humana's business
  • Representing Humana at regional and national legislative, regulatory, and other intergovernmental organizations

The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, matrixed environment. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as public policy, communications, health policy, or business, is required, with a master's degree preferred.
