Job Summary

Pima County is seeking a skilled Trades Maintenance Specialist to join our team in the Corrections Shop. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing journey-level maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment, systems, and vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled analysis and repair of equipment, systems, and vehicles
  • Lead others in highly skilled fabrication or modifications of existing or proposed equipment, facilities, systems, or their components
  • Inspect, service, and maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Perform quality control analysis on equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and perform remedial actions necessary to assure optimum operations
  • Inspect, approve, or certify work of others (if certified or authorized to do so)
  • Maintain comprehensive activity, operations, service, and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment, and systems
  • Prepare oral and written activity reports
  • Prepare estimates for unique or complex operations, maintenance, and special projects from rough sketches and engineering plans or drawings, and documents use and expenditure of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Prepare sketches and drawings for work proposed or in progress to communicate needed information to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors
  • Coordinate own or work-unit activities with other work units, agencies, or contractors to assure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support
  • Monitor contractor performance (including contractor-supplied goods and services)
  • Conduct on-the-job training for employees in assigned work-unit
  • Store, handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials required, encountered, or generated in work activities
  • Maintain security and accountability for all tools, equipment, and materials, particularly for work in medical, law enforcement, detention, or correctional settings
  • Maintain and use safety and personal protective equipment
  • Implement work-site traffic control procedures to ensure safety
  • Explain rules, regulations, or procedures to the public and other County employees for use of County facilities
  • Collect, label, transport, and analyze samples of fluids, solids, effluents, etc., encountered in work
Requirements
  • Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical and one year of journey-level experience in the same
  • OR: Five years of journey-level experience in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical
  • OR: Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical
Preferred Qualifications
  1. General Building Maintenance: Requires three (3) years of experience in general building maintenance
  2. Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC): Experience troubleshooting and repairing air handling equipment, performing filter changes, lubricating, inspecting, and documenting HVAC and chilled water equipment
  3. Electrical: Experience servicing and repairing commercial lighting fixtures, light controls, switches, and receptacles, troubleshooting electrical motors and motor control centers, replacing a variety of electrical motors and associated components

Candidates meeting the minimum/desired qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications.

Licenses and Certificates

A valid driver's license is required at the time of application. A valid AZ driver's license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant's suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
