Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Trades Maintenance Specialist I to join our team at Pima County, AZ. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing journey-level maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of equipment, systems, and vehicles. Your technical skills, experience, and knowledge in the area of specialization will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled analysis and repair of equipment, systems, and vehicles
  • Lead others in highly skilled fabrication or modifications of existing or proposed equipment, facilities, systems, or their components
  • Inspect, service, and maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Perform quality control analysis on equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and perform remedial actions necessary to assure optimum operations
  • Inspect, approve, or certify work of others (if certified or authorized to do so)
  • Maintain comprehensive activity, operations, service, and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment, and systems
  • Prepare oral and written activity reports
  • Prepare estimates for unique or complex operations, maintenance, and special projects from rough sketches and engineering plans or drawings, and documents use and expenditure of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Prepare sketches and drawings for work proposed or in progress to communicate needed information to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors
  • Coordinate own or work-unit activities with other work units, agencies, or contractors to assure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support
  • Monitor contractor performance (including contractor-supplied goods and services)
  • Conduct on-the-job training for employees in assigned work-unit
  • Store, handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials required, encountered, or generated in work activities
  • Maintain security and accountability for all tools, equipment, and materials, particularly for work in medical, law enforcement, detention, or correctional settings
  • Maintain and use safety and personal protective equipment
  • Implement work-site traffic control procedures to ensure safety
  • Explain rules, regulations, or procedures to the public and other County employees for use of County facilities
  • Collect, label, transport, and analyze samples of fluids, solids, effluents, etc., encountered in work
Requirements
  • Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical and one year of journey-level experience in the same
  • Five years of journey-level experience in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical
  • Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical
Preferred Qualifications
  • General building maintenance: three years of experience in general building maintenance
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC): experience troubleshooting and repairing air handling equipment, performing filter changes, lubricating, inspecting, and documenting HVAC and chilled water equipment, calibrating or replacing pneumatic and low-voltage thermostats
  • Electrical: experience servicing and repairing commercial lighting fixtures, light controls, switches, and receptacles, troubleshooting electrical motors and motor control centers, replacing a variety of electrical motors and associated components, understanding electrical schematics, using and understanding voltage meter and amp probes
