Job Summary:

Pima County, AZ is seeking a skilled Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Facilities Management department, you will be responsible for providing journey-level maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting services for our buildings and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled analysis and repair of equipment, systems, and vehicles
  • Lead others in highly skilled fabrication or modifications of existing or proposed equipment, facilities, systems, or their components
  • Inspect, service, and maintain assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Perform quality control analysis on equipment or supported systems for proper functioning and perform remedial actions necessary to assure optimum operations
  • Inspect, approve, or certify work of others (if certified or authorized to do so)
  • Maintain comprehensive activity, operations, service, and usage records on supported vehicles, equipment, and systems
  • Prepare oral and written activity reports
  • Prepare estimates for unique or complex operations, maintenance, and special projects from rough sketches and engineering plans or drawings, and documents use and expenditure of materials, supplies, and equipment
  • Prepare sketches and drawings for work proposed or in progress to communicate needed information to supervisors, subordinates, and contractors
  • Coordinate own or work-unit activities with other work units, agencies, or contractors to assure optimal use of available resources and to minimize disruptions of service or support
  • Monitor contractor performance (including contractor-supplied goods and services)
  • Conduct on-the-job training for employees in assigned work-unit
  • Store, handle, use, and dispose of hazardous materials required, encountered, or generated in work activities
  • Maintain security and accountability for all tools, equipment, and materials, particularly for work in medical, law enforcement, detention, or correctional settings
  • Maintain and use safety and personal protective equipment
  • Implement work-site traffic control procedures to ensure safety
  • Explain rules, regulations, or procedures to the public and other County employees for use of County facilities
  • Collect, label, transport, and analyze samples of fluids, solids, effluents, etc., encountered in work

Requirements:

  • Completion of an industry-recognized apprenticeship program in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical and one year of journey-level experience in the same
  • Five years of journey-level experience in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical
  • Two years of experience with Pima County as a Trades Maintenance Technician in building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, or electrical

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General building maintenance experience, including repairing or replacing commercial/institutional-grade plumbing fixtures and performing evaporative cooling tower maintenance
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) experience, including troubleshooting and repairing air handling equipment and performing filter changes and lubricating
  • Electrical experience, including servicing and repairing commercial lighting fixtures and troubleshooting electrical motors and motor control centers

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and may be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, and hazardous materials. A post-job-offer physical is required.
