Supervisor of Perioperative Support Services

This role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Perioperative Support Technicians within the Main Operating Room and Anesthesia Support areas. The supervisor will address material flow challenges and ensure proper supply rotation while managing the disposal of expired or recalled items. The position also involves ensuring thorough terminal cleaning of all Operating Rooms and off-site Anesthesia areas, while effectively leading the Perioperative Support Technicians and providing direct assistance as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Adjust staffing and workload to align with patient and customer needs.
- Guide and support Perioperative Support Technicians in their daily tasks, troubleshooting workflows to enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with the department manager to develop and uphold departmental policies and standard operating procedures, ensuring consistent performance.
- Maintain regular communication with the department manager and other supervisors regarding safety issues, customer and employee feedback, personnel matters, and process modifications.
- Work alongside the department manager to establish key operational objectives and implement action plans to achieve these goals.
- Coordinate with fellow supervisors to promote teamwork and consistency across the department.
- Partner with the Recruiting Department to identify and onboard new team members, ensuring timely completion of new employee evaluations.
- Oversee payroll processing and maintain accurate records in accordance with established policies.
- Engage in ongoing education and benchmarking activities to enhance departmental performance.
- Assess key patient and customer requirements as directed by intra- and inter-departmental stakeholders.
- Foster staff engagement through effective communication and information sharing, creating an involved workforce through goal setting, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor staff practices related to safety and provide necessary coaching to uphold a culture of safety.
- Schedule and document all safety and regulatory training for staff.
- Provide regular performance feedback to assigned personnel and ensure that annual evaluations are conducted with clear performance improvement guidelines.
- Develop and track key performance indicators to monitor operational effectiveness and report progress to the department manager.
- Design work systems and processes to maximize value for patients and customers, collaborating with the department manager and other supervisors to enhance productivity.
- Supervise the flow of materials and supplies in designated areas.
- Maintain proficiency in electronic inventory systems and support Perioperative Support Technician activities, conducting regular competency checks and audits.
- Collaborate with the Controller to resolve material flow issues and ensure proper supply rotation.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities for products that can be sourced internally.
- Oversee all assigned Perioperative Support Technicians and related personnel.
- Acquire knowledge of Cell Saver/Laser technology within the first year of employment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities.
- High level of proficiency in computer applications is preferred.
Required Licensure/Certifications
- Current registration with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians.Inclusivity Statement
