Evening Operations Supervisor for Perioperative Services

Overview

Responsible for managing and ensuring the efficient daily operations of the Perioperative Support Technicians within the Main Operating Room and Anesthesia Support areas. Identifies and resolves material flow challenges while ensuring proper inventory management and disposal of expired or recalled items. Guarantees thorough daily cleaning of all Operating Rooms and Anesthesia off-site locations while effectively guiding the Perioperative Support Technicians and providing direct assistance as necessary.


Key Responsibilities
  1. Adjusts staffing and workload to meet patient and customer needs effectively.
  2. Leads and supports all Perioperative Support Technicians in their daily tasks, troubleshooting workflows to ensure efficiency across all areas of their responsibilities.
  3. Collaborates with the department manager to develop and uphold departmental policies and standard operating procedures, ensuring consistent and reliable performance. Regularly monitors compliance and effectiveness.
  4. Maintains regular communication with the department manager and other supervisors regarding safety issues, customer and employee concerns, personnel matters, process modifications, and other pertinent topics.
  5. Works alongside the department manager to establish key operational objectives and implements action plans to achieve these goals throughout the department.
  6. Collaborates with fellow supervisors to promote cooperation, consistency, and teamwork.
  7. Partners with the Recruiting Department to identify and select new team members, ensuring timely completion of new employee evaluations.
  8. Oversees payroll processing and maintains records in accordance with established policies.
  9. Engages in ongoing education programs and benchmarking activities.
  10. Identifies key patient and customer requirements, needs, and expectations based on intra-departmental and inter-departmental customer feedback.
  11. Encourages staff engagement through two-way communication and information sharing. Fosters an engaged workforce by conducting individual goal-setting sessions, providing training, and involving staff in continuous improvement initiatives.
  12. Monitors staff behaviors and processes related to safe work practices, providing necessary coaching to uphold a culture of safety.
  13. Schedules all safety and regulatory training for staff and maintains appropriate records.
  14. Provides regular performance feedback to all assigned personnel and ensures that annual performance evaluations are documented, offering clear guidance for performance enhancement. Maintains records related to performance management, corrective actions, and disciplinary measures in line with policy.
  15. Develops and tracks key performance indicators to monitor operational performance and progress on action plans. Regularly reports progress and trends to the department manager.
  16. Designs work systems and processes to deliver value to patients and customers. In collaboration with the department manager and other shift supervisors, conducts capability, demand, and process reviews to enhance productivity and minimize non-value-added tasks.
  17. Supervises the flow of materials and supplies entering and exiting the storeroom within designated areas.
  18. Maintains proficiency in all aspects of electronic inventory systems and supports Perioperative Support Technician operations, conducting regular competency checks and audits to ensure proper turnover and terminal cleanings.
  19. Collaborates with the Controller to address material flow issues and ensures proper inventory rotation while managing the disposal of expired or recalled products.
  20. Identifies cost-saving opportunities for products that could be sourced from the storeroom rather than ordered externally.
  21. Oversees all assigned Perioperative Support Technicians and related personnel.
  22. Acquires working knowledge of Cell Saver/Laser technology within the first year of employment.
  23. Performs additional duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Associate's degree with a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with excellent organizational abilities.
  • High level of computer proficiency is preferred.

Required Licensure/Certifications

- Currently registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians.
