Position Overview

The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) has a rich history, established in 1891, dedicated to providing exceptional early childhood education to families in need. Role Purpose

The Early Childhood Education Program Leader will be responsible for overseeing the effective implementation of the Creative Curriculum model by educators within the center, while ensuring adherence to organizational policies and state regulations. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations, scheduling, conducting classroom observations, facilitating staff training and development, and overseeing curriculum development, execution, and evaluation. The leader will ensure compliance with all relevant regulations as stipulated by local health and education authorities.

Scope of Influence

  • Uphold educational standards through various operational strategies, including monitoring instructional quality among teaching staff.
  • Maintain the learning environment by ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Center Operations (Health and Safety, Compliance, Coaching, Curriculum Implementation) 90%

  • Comprehend and align with the goals and vision of BKS.
  • Supervise all center personnel, including teachers, assistants, and support staff.
  • Guarantee the full execution of the Creative Curriculum and related policies to support children's readiness for school.
  • Provide continuous coaching to educators to enhance their effectiveness in various areas, including:

4) Child Assessment

5) Addressing Individual Needs

6) Family Engagement

7) Professional Development

8) Health and Safety Practices

  • Conduct regular observations of teaching teams, offering constructive feedback consistently.
  • Collaborate with educators to implement a reliable child assessment system, utilizing data to inform individualized planning.
  • Engage in recruitment efforts to attract children to the center, developing strategies to sustain enrollment throughout the year.
  • Work closely with family services to facilitate the intake and placement of new children.
  • Partner with compliance directors to ensure adherence to city and state regulations.
  • Establish efficient record-keeping systems, including health logs and required documentation.
  • Lead initiatives to promote child health and safety across all programming.
  • Manage interactions with educational and health departments regarding compliance and operational matters.
  • Attend relevant meetings and collaborate with family service members to report on center activities.
  • Oversee food service operations in conjunction with kitchen staff.
  • Delegate daily tasks to custodial staff and manage maintenance requests.
  • Input data into relevant systems as required.

Reports To

  • Deputy Director of Education

Direct Reports

  • Group Teachers, Assistant Teachers, Teacher Aides, Kitchen Staff, Administrative Support, Custodians, and additional personnel as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • NYS Professional ECE Certification B-2, Valid NYS Permanent Certification B-2 or N-6, Professional or Permanent Childhood Education (1-6), Prekindergarten-Grade 6 (P-6).
  • Minimum of 2 years of classroom experience with children under 6 years of age.
  • Master's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and relevant external systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience managing a team of 10 or more.
  • Minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and low-income communities.
