The Brooklyn Kindergarten Society (BKS) has been committed to delivering exceptional early childhood education to children from underprivileged backgrounds for over 130 years. We cater to nearly 450 children in comprehensive educational programs, each enhanced with pre-literacy and language initiatives, as well as artistic and musical instruction. BKS acknowledges that families – crucial to children's achievements – often require resources and support beyond the classroom. Consequently, our social services team offers counseling, referral services, and workshops for both children and their families. We provide full-day, year-round care for children who are engaged by various curriculum studies initiated by them and guided by the principles of the Creative Curriculum.
JOB OBJECTIVE
The Lead Early Childhood Educator is the primary facilitator of the classroom and is accountable for the execution of developmentally suitable curriculum (Creative Curriculum) while distributing classroom-related tasks to the Assistant Teacher and Teacher's Aide. The Lead Educator should be capable of collaborating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and families to ensure high-quality education.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Curriculum Planning and Implementation (50%)
- Curriculum Planning (25%)
- Comprehend the goals, objectives, and vision of BKS
- Understand the aims and objectives of the curriculum
- Design well-structured lessons that align with current units of study and culturally relevant teaching methods.
- Execute units of study and lesson plans thoughtfully and intentionally
- Establish goals for children
- Identify ways staff and parents can assist children in achieving these goals
- Determine classroom materials necessary to support curriculum implementation towards achieving goals.
- Program Execution (25%)
- Provide constructive guidance for children
- Implement daily lesson plans.
- Lead various small group and center activities
- Delegate academic and classroom responsibilities to assistant teachers and aides.
- Understand individual student goals and connect those goals to academic activities.
- Work with small groups of children to reinforce lessons, offering one-on-one instruction and supervising students in the classroom.
- Create a warm and inviting environment that includes a print-rich and culturally responsive atmosphere.
Additional Educational and Non-Educational Responsibilities (35%)

- Complete and maintain observations and other ongoing records
- Navigate Teaching Strategies GOLD online (assessment system).
- Supervision (10%)
- Provide consistent supervision that considers developmentally appropriate activities and health needs of the group and individual child.
- Relationship Development (5%)
- Build relationships with key stakeholders such as other educators, family workers/social workers, parents, and guardians for the purpose of school readiness.
- Encouraging Professional Growth (5%)
- Take responsibility for professional performance and self-reflection
Other Responsibilities (15%)
- Fulfill roles as mandated reporter as outlined in Child Abuse and Neglect Policies.
- Participate in staff meetings, conferences, training sessions, and workshops as assigned.
- Perform any other work-related duties necessary for the smooth operation of the center as requested by the supervisor.

Qualifications
- At least an Associate's Degree working towards a Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education (if not possessing an AA in ECE) or an Associate's degree working towards any Bachelor's program that includes at least 12 credits in Early Childhood Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Psychology, Childhood Development, Elementary Education, and Students with Disabilities 1-6, provided the degree includes at least 12 credits in Early Childhood Education, or a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education or working towards a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education is highly preferred
- A minimum of 2 years' experience working with children ages 2-4 years old
- A 2.5 minimum cumulative undergraduate GPA if possessing an undergraduate degree
- Experience working with low-income populations and diverse cultures.
