About the Role:

Motorola is seeking a seasoned Legal Director to join our Mobile Business Group (MBG) in Chicago, IL. As a trusted business advisor, you will provide strategic guidance to senior leadership and global business teams on various matters, including product development, IP licensing, and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise MBG senior leadership on business-critical matters, such as product development, IP licensing, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as an interface and liaison to the Business Group for other Corporate Legal functions, including IP, Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Contracting Center of Excellence, and Litigation.
  • Participate in meetings with the SVP & President, MBG as a member of the MBG Senior Leadership team.
  • Supervise and mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support to ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements:

  • JD Degree from a top-tier US law school.
  • 15+ years post-qualification experience in international business and contract law, with strong business and financial acumen.
  • Mobile industry or technology industry experience, with a strategic grasp of IP, particularly in the growing 5G landscape.
  • Experience with SEP litigation and licensing, as well as negotiating with tier one business partners.
  • Familiarity with FCC requirements and other regulatory requirements applicable to a dynamic and ever-changing business.
  • Currently licensed to practice in the US.

  • Undergraduate degree in business or engineering a plus.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Innovative and practical approach to crafting solutions that enable and protect business interests.
  • Deep understanding of dynamics and key business drivers in the technology industry.
  • Track record of structuring and negotiating commercial transactions involving complex technologies.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Strategic agility.
  • Strength in issue-spotting based on broad exposure to multiple fields of law.
  • Sound judgment and advanced analytical skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, proactively manage, and mitigate legal risks, and to effectively advise on risk management and mitigation.
  • Capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Executive presence and experience engaging with senior-level colleagues and clients globally.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including legal drafting.
  • Ability to work together as a team player with other functional legal SMEs.
