Automotive Service Technician Responsibilities:

Responsible for preparing, documenting, and submitting warranty claims to manufacturers and reconciling them as necessary.

In this position, you will...

  • Execute tasks as detailed in the repair order with precision and efficiency, adhering to dealership and manufacturer standards.
  • Identify the source of any issues and carry out repairs.
  • Coordinate with the parts department to secure necessary components.
  • Preserve and label parts from jobs under warranty or as requested by clients.
  • Inspect assigned vehicles to determine if additional safety or service work is needed.
  • Inform the service advisor promptly if further work is required, if the outlined work is unnecessary, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised timeframe.
  • Document all performed and recommended work on the repair order.
  • Conduct road tests on vehicles when necessary.
  • Engage in manufacturer-sponsored training programs and events.
  • Stay updated on manufacturer technical bulletins.
  • Oversee the work of any assigned apprentice technicians.
  • Report any equipment defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Ensure that customer vehicles are maintained in a clean condition, notifying service advisors of any changes in appearance or condition.
  • Maintain a tidy shop environment.
  • Be responsible for all dealership-owned tools and manuals, ensuring they are returned in the same condition as received.
  • Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know.
  • Operate all tools and equipment safely.
  • Report any safety concerns to management immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A valid driver's license.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills, including:
    • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
    • Ability to effectively communicate with customers and team members.
  • Experience with general office equipment (computers, tablets, copiers, etc.).
  • Capability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to understand and execute a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to handle standardized situations with minimal variability.
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or a combination of education and experience.
