POSITION SUMMARY

In accordance with Federal regulations, all individuals hired will be required to confirm their identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the necessary employment eligibility verification form upon hiring.

This role involves preparing healthy meals and snacks for children enrolled in the Head Start program while ensuring accurate and complete documentation of the food service operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with parents and center personnel to design menus that fulfill the nutritional needs of children.
  • Procures food items for the menus while adhering to budget constraints.
  • Prepares meals and snacks in accordance with the approved menu.
  • Serves meals in a family-style environment and dines alongside the children.
  • Maintains safety and hygiene standards in food preparation and storage.
  • Cleans and organizes food preparation and storage areas, along with related equipment.
  • Engages in cooking activities within the classroom setting.
  • Completes all necessary documentation and reports.
  • Participates in staff meetings and parent engagement activities.
  • Encourages parental involvement in menu planning and acts as substitute cooks when necessary.
  • Attends training sessions and workshops for professional development.
  • Displays weekly menus, vendor lists, and work schedules for the Cook and Lunch Aide.
  • Adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY ROLE

Oversees the activities of a Lunch Aide.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this position, an individual must successfully fulfill each essential duty. The qualifications listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.

Education and Experience

Experience and training equivalent to a high school diploma and one year of experience in nutrition and food preparation. Experience in planning and preparing nutritious meals for children in the Head Start program, ensuring that one-third of their daily nutritional requirements are met. Responsibilities include purchasing and storing food, maintaining sanitary conditions, and record-keeping. The cook operates under the general supervision of the Center Director after completing the necessary training.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Understanding of food preparation, safe storage, and sanitation practices. A genuine commitment to the well-being of children. Physical capability to meet the demands of the job. Ability to foster effective working relationships with individuals from diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Must be bondable.

Additional Skills and Certifications

Certificates and Licenses

Current, valid Arizona Driver's License.

Must obtain a Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Must acquire Food Manager or Food Managers certification as mandated by the County Health Department.
