POSITION OVERVIEW
In accordance with Federal regulations, all candidates must verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States upon hiring.
The role involves preparing healthy meals and snacks for children enrolled in the Head Start program while ensuring meticulous record-keeping for the food service operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with parents and center personnel to design menus that fulfill the nutritional needs of children.
- Procures food items for the planned menus while adhering to budget constraints.
- Prepares meals and snacks in accordance with the approved menu.
- Serves meals in a family-style setting and shares dining experiences with the children.
- Ensures safety and hygiene standards are maintained during food preparation and storage.
- Maintains cleanliness of food preparation and storage areas as well as kitchen equipment.
- Engages in cooking activities within the classroom environment.
- Completes necessary documentation and reports related to food service.
- Participates in staff meetings and parent engagement activities.
- Encourages parental involvement in menu planning and serves as a substitute cook when needed.
- Attends training sessions and workshops for professional development.
- Displays weekly menus, vendor lists, and work schedules for the Cook and Lunch Aide.
- Adheres to health and safety regulations.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Oversees the activities of a Lunch Aide.
QUALIFICATIONS
To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The qualifications outlined below represent the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Education and Experience
High school graduation or equivalent, along with one year of experience in nutrition and food preparation. Experience in planning and preparing nutritious meals for children in the Head Start program, ensuring that a significant portion of their daily nutritional needs are met. Responsibilities include food purchasing, storage, maintaining sanitary conditions, and record-keeping. Participation in all staff and center meetings and training is expected. The position operates under the general supervision of the Center Director once initial training is completed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of food preparation, safe storage practices, and sanitation. A genuine commitment to the well-being of children. Physical capability to meet the demands of the role. Ability to foster effective working relationships with individuals from diverse social, cultural, and educational backgrounds. Must be bondable.
Certificates and Licenses
Possession of a valid Arizona Driver's License.
Must obtain a Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Food Manager certification or equivalent as mandated by the County Health Department.
