About the Role:

UTHealth is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Representative II to join our team in the Department of Family Medicine. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring medical necessity compliance, verifying eligibility, and posting payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtain demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors and enter it into our computer system with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Schedule patient appointments and enter required information into the computer system in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Explain all required forms to patients or guarantors and obtain the necessary signatures.
  • Ensure medical necessity compliance by obtaining necessary data, reviewing our Compliance System, communicating information to patients or guarantors, and obtaining necessary signatures.
  • Protect the financial integrity of our facility by collecting patient liability, establishing payment arrangements, discussing payment options, and screening for eligibility.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and ensure all notifications and authorizations are completed within the required timeframes.
  • Post payments in the computer system and generate the appropriate patient receipts.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with physicians, care management, ancillary departments, nursing units, physicians' office staff, insurance companies, patients, and their families.
  • Complete thorough and accurate documentation.
  • Adhere to all university policies, procedures, and standards, including time management, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education, skills competency, and supporting department-based goals.

Requirements:

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient typing/keyboarding skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in a hospital or medical business office setting.
  • Previous experience utilizing EPIC is highly preferred.
  • Experience with scheduling and navigating insurance web portals is highly preferred.
