Position Summary:

BWXT is currently looking for an Industrial Mechanic to join our dedicated team in Mount Vernon, IN.

Key Responsibilities:

- Adhere to Job Safety Analysis protocols and implement preventive, predictive, and reliability-based maintenance techniques across all plant systems.
- Utilize barricades, lock out/tag out procedures, and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure safe task execution.
- Report any unsafe work conditions to management immediately.
- Engage in confined space work or serve as a confined space attendant as required.
- Conduct testing of machinery and system functions during preventive or reactive maintenance, ensuring systems are ready for production.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues across various plant systems.
- Fabricate basic factory equipment using materials such as wood, metal, plastic, or concrete.
- Assess electrical controls for power status, including foreign power sources.
- Perform repairs on electrical-powered machines, addressing simple defects like burned-out lamps or frayed wires.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, hydrostatic, hydraulic, and minor electrical malfunctions.
- Install and align machinery using appropriate techniques and specifications.
- Understand and apply principles of benchmarking, performance testing, and machine release requirements post-maintenance.
- Execute basic rigging tasks and perform non-critical welding and brazing.
- Operate various material handling equipment safely, including forklifts and cranes.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including the maintenance shop.
- Plan and detail working procedures to identify material needs and troubleshooting approaches.
- Design adaptations or modifications to systems as necessary.
- Conduct carpentry and rigging tasks as required.
- Move materials and equipment efficiently within the work area.
- Identify and report faulty operations and defective materials, providing necessary maintenance documentation.
- Complete administrative tasks related to maintenance and repair activities.

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Candidates must pass proficiency tests in plumbing, pipe fitting, mechanics, welding, carpentry, masonry, machining, and mobile equipment maintenance.
- Basic understanding of industrial electricity and power control is essential.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics.
- Proficiency in using a PC and barcode readers.
- Knowledge of mechanical balance, vibration control, and axle alignment principles.
- Physical capability to lift 40 lbs, navigate heights, and enter confined spaces.
- U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship is required.
- Willingness to work various shifts as needed.
