Position Overview:

The Clinical Nurse Specialist II will independently assess and deliver professional nursing care for patients in alignment with physician directives and established protocols. This role involves providing nursing services to patients and their families, adhering to the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, deliver, supervise, and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process in accordance with physician orders and established guidelines. Employ professional nursing judgment to tailor the care plan based on patient assessments and responses. Delegate tasks and oversee the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers. Support fellow nursing staff in delivering care and serve as a team leader or charge nurse for assigned patients or units. Monitor and initiate corrective actions to ensure a safe care environment, including managing equipment and resources.

Engage in personal professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and pursuing relevant educational opportunities. Act as a mentor and facilitate the growth of other staff and learners. Participate in identifying clinical or operational performance improvement opportunities and engage in related activities. Undertake additional duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of the roles of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and unlicensed staff.
  • Proficient in applying the nursing process effectively.
  • Familiarity with professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess the nursing needs of both acute and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Capability to independently seek resources and collaborate effectively.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, visitors, healthcare teams, and leadership.
  • Ability to educate patients and families in line with the nursing care plan.
  • Competence in BLS and/or other specialized life support requirements relevant to the work area.
  • Proficient in documenting activities, assessments, care plans, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Able to navigate the organization to provide clinical care for patients.
  • Capacity to endure prolonged standing and walking while remaining focused and organized.
  • Knowledge of infection control procedures and safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from an accredited BSN program is required. Registered nurses hired without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within two years of their start date.

Experience: A minimum of twelve months of relevant clinical experience is required. Exceptional performers with six months of experience may be considered for this level at management's discretion.

Licensure and Certification:

Must possess current or compact RN licensure in North Carolina. BLS certification is mandatory.
