This role is situated within the Space Systems Development (SSD) division, which is dedicated to pioneering next-generation concepts and systems that will facilitate sustainable living and working in space.

This position is part of the Systems Formulation Team within the SSD division. The Systems Formulation team offers expertise in architecture, system definition, modeling, concept exploration, and mission design to the broader Core Formulation Team. This multidisciplinary group of systems thinkers excels in versatile analysis, emphasizing speed, technical credibility, adaptability, and contextual understanding. The team operates within a dynamic agile framework to nurture ideas and transform initial concepts into advanced technologies, systems, and programs that promote sustainable living and working in space. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and utilize tools for rapid definition, analysis, and evaluation of architectural and system concepts, trade studies, and technical roadmaps.
  • Create operational concepts, requirements, and functional architecture definitions.
  • Establish configuration and sizing for a variety of system applications, including block diagrams, interface documents, and equipment lists for mass and power.
  • Guide ideas through the Idea Pipeline, assisting with idea assessments, development processes, sprint planning, and execution of studies.
  • Mentor and cross-train team members to cultivate a robust pool of technical talent and encourage career advancement.
  • Conduct technical work and provide high-level technical leadership.
  • Embody, promote, and mentor others in the Blue Origin leadership principles.
  • Identify and address gaps in existing processes, tools, and infrastructure, continuously improving solutions.
  • Utilize collaboration tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and SharePoint.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Over 8 years of relevant experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge in one or more traditional aerospace subsystems.
  • Experience in conducting trade studies that effectively balance performance, resource utilization, risk, cost, and schedule.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary development projects, including requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-disciplinary engineering teams on rapid development initiatives.
  • Flexibility and readiness to transition quickly between projects.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and comfort in making timely, high-quality decisions.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Highly organized team player with exceptional technical communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee or asylee.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a fast-paced concept development environment.
  • Experience in the full life-cycle development of spacecraft and/or space-flight systems.
  • Familiarity with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.

The compensation range for this position varies based on location and experience.
