Position Overview

The Aquatic Programs Supervisor plays a vital role in the YMCA of Greater Boston, working under the guidance of the Aquatic Director and Assistant Aquatics Director. This position is essential for the planning, organizing, directing, budgeting, and evaluation of aquatic programs, ensuring alignment with the mission and policies of the association.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Deliver exceptional service to members by surpassing their expectations.
  • Engage with members through active listening to foster relationships and understand their goals, proactively assisting them in achieving these objectives.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and oversight of lifeguard and instructor personnel in collaboration with the Aquatic Director.
  • Review and manage staff, class, and pool schedules effectively.
  • Collaborate closely with the Aquatic Director to implement instructional swim programs.
  • Be prepared to teach or lifeguard as necessary.
  • Address inquiries from members, program participants, and staff promptly.
  • In partnership with the Aquatic/Assistant Aquatics Director, oversee safety training, drills, and documentation.
  • Share responsibilities for the upkeep and maintenance of facilities and related equipment.
  • Assist in the procurement of equipment and aquatic/first aid supplies as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records for control, evaluation, and reporting purposes.
  • Support the execution of special events related to the Aquatic Department and the YMCA.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings as a member of the branch management team.
  • Stay current with required and optional training to promote personal and professional growth.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Preferred: Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and possess YMCA Lifeguarding certification or be willing to transition from Red Cross certification within six months of hiring.

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of experience in managing and instructing various aquatic programs and pool maintenance.
  • Proven experience in supervising staff and developing schedules for pools and classes, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of trends in the aquatic field and a commitment to ongoing professional development in YMCA Aquatic Management.
Required Training/Certifications

Pre-employment:

  • YMCA Lifeguarding or ARC certification.
  • At least one year of aquatic experience.

Within 60-90 Days:

  • Child Abuse Prevention training.
  • Respect in the Workplace training.
  • Listen First training.

Within 90-120 Days:

  • Creating the Member Experience training.

Within 1 Year:

  • YSL training.
  • Adult Learning Concepts training.
  • Facilitation Skills training.

Within 18 Months:

  • Orientation to the Y Training System.
  • YLGI or ASHI instructor certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to interact physically and verbally with members and staff.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment
  • Moderate noise levels in the workplace.
