Position Summary

The Quality Assurance Laboratory Specialist is responsible for examining samples to ensure the quality of incoming ingredients, bulk materials, and finished products. This role involves maintaining a clean and functional laboratory environment, verifying testing standards, and managing necessary documentation. The specialist will perform various routine laboratory tasks and paperwork as required.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Duties:
- Distinguish color, odor, appearance, and taste in various materials.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations and problem-solving.
- Examine sampled materials for compliance with specifications and standards.
- Approve materials in the system and physically using labels.

Maintain organized samples for follow-up reviews or investigations.

Update and maintain records and logs for all equipment and testing as required.
- Assist in investigations of deviations and discrepancies.
- Help catalog, store, and schedule the destruction of ingredient, bulk batch, and finished product samples.
- Work independently with excellent communication skills.

Additional Duties:
- Coordinate the receipt and recording of Certificates of Analysis from vendors.
- Maintain a clean and operational laboratory.
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibration of instruments and equipment.
- Stock the laboratory with necessary chemical reagents and supplies.
- Conduct testing according to established procedures for bulk batches, ingredients, and finished goods.
- Maintain accurate records of all testing and calibrations conducted.

Qualifications

Essential:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work independently and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.
- High level of efficiency and accuracy in tasks.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Capability to distinguish color shades and differences in tastes and odors.
- Ability to stand, sit, or walk for the duration of the shift.
- Good mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to represent the department positively.
