Funeral Director Job Description

As a Funeral Director, you'll play a vital role in facilitating funeral arrangements, presiding over visitation, funeral, and graveside services, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with families to understand their needs and preferences, providing guidance and support throughout the funeral planning process.
  • Coordinate and facilitate funeral services, including visitation, funeral, and graveside services, ensuring a seamless and respectful experience for families and guests.
  • Work closely with the funeral home team to ensure compliance with all mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with families, funeral homes, and other stakeholders to promote our services and build trust.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry developments, laws, and regulations to ensure our funeral home remains compliant and competitive.
Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited mortuary science program.
  • Current Funeral Director license in the practicing state.
  • Valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Industry experience preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Cognitive ability to reason, plan, and identify problems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with families and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office and databases.
Work Environment:
  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Professional business attire required when interacting with families.
  • Frequent standing, sitting, and climbing stairs.
  • Ability to push and pull up to 150 pounds.
