SENIOR AUDITOR
DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

Overview:

The Office of Internal Audit within the Tennessee Department of Finance and Administration is dedicated to providing impartial, objective assurance and advisory services aimed at enhancing value and improving operational efficiency. Our mission is to assist the department in achieving its goals through a systematic and disciplined approach to assessing the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, compliance, and governance processes.

Impact of Your Role:

As a Senior Auditor, you will play a crucial role in fostering risk management awareness and establishing a robust control environment across the department. The Finance and Administration sector manages numerous critical functions that influence various state departments and agencies. Your contributions will span multiple engagements, allowing you to positively affect various areas of state governance by delivering value-added audit and consulting services that enhance the control environment, mitigate risks, and support management objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and executing diverse financial, compliance, operational, and program audits, along with other consulting projects, in alignment with the IIA Red Book standards.
  • Thoroughly assessing risks, controls, policies, procedures, organizational structures, and management practices throughout the agency during each engagement.
  • Utilizing analytical procedures with Excel and/or ACL on extensive data sets to identify significant, unusual, or relevant transactions or activities.
    Compiling comprehensive and organized workpaper files using Diligent HighBond electronic workpaper software in accordance with IIA standards and internal policies.
  • Reviewing the workpapers of fellow auditors to ensure precision and completeness. Drafting reports that effectively communicate audit findings and recommendations.
  • Assisting in the coordination, facilitation, and evaluation of the annual departmental risk assessment in compliance with the Financial Integrity Act.
  • Conducting or supporting internal fraud investigations as required.
  • Contributing to the formulation of the annual internal audit plan.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or a related field from an accredited four-year institution.
  • A minimum of three years of audit experience with progressive responsibilities.
  • Experience in supervising auditors in a lead auditor capacity.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage with individuals at all organizational levels, both internally and externally. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel for report generation and data analysis.
  • Relevant professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CFE are preferred. Highly organized, detail-oriented, efficient, and self-motivated.
  • Capability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Access to adequate workspace and reliable Internet for remote work capabilities.
