Position Summary:

The role involves serving as a project engineer for engineering design and construction initiatives. You will independently assess, select, and implement standard engineering methodologies, procedures, and criteria in the execution of engineering designs and decisions. This position entails significant responsibilities in planning, design, construction, or related engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare preliminary and final plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Review project plans and submissions for approval.
  • Oversee the technical work of engineering technicians and interns.
  • Act as the construction engineer and assist in departmental responsibilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

All candidates must possess a valid Driver's License recognized by the State of Utah at the time of hire.

For Grade 15:

Bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution.

For Grade 16:

Bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution. Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Utah or obtain licensure within six months of employment.

For Grade 17:

Bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from an accredited institution. Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Utah and have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience with increasing responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare plans and specifications for various projects, including storm drains, street enhancements, and drainage systems.
  • Manage construction methods and evaluate alternatives during project execution.
  • Compile relevant information and recommend approvals for contract payments, change orders, and agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations as the Safety Manager/Engineer for construction projects.
  • Review proposed site developments to ensure adherence to design standards.
  • Prepare work orders for field survey teams to gather necessary data for project approval.
  • Assist in the development of master plans and feasibility reports for engineering and transportation projects.
  • Calculate estimated project costs for budgeting and bonding purposes.
  • Oversee consultant projects to ensure feasibility and compliance with standards.
  • Prepare right-of-way acquisition maps and legal property descriptions.
  • Supervise and review the work of subordinates to ensure accuracy.
  • Assist in the evaluation of employee performance and the development of performance standards.
  • Coordinate and participate in meetings with various stakeholders to discuss projects and initiatives.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from the public regarding county ordinances.
  • Manage engineering and construction programs, including impact fees and traffic safety initiatives.
  • Represent the Project Engineering Manager as assigned.
