Key Responsibilities:
Teaching Duties:
- Stays informed about advancements in the field of English studies.
- Exhibits exemplary academic and professional standards.
- Provides constructive evaluations of student submissions and timely feedback.
- Conducts classes at varied times and locations to accommodate student schedules, including early morning sessions and off-campus instruction.
- Ensures accessibility for students through scheduled office hours, digital communication, and other suitable methods, responding promptly to inquiries.
- Assesses, reviews, and recommends educational materials for student learning.
- Creates and utilizes a syllabus and course information in alignment with institutional and departmental guidelines.
- Maintains a high level of expertise in the discipline and teaching strategies through ongoing professional development.
- Designs and implements effective teaching methods and resources that cater to diverse student backgrounds and learning preferences, fostering student engagement.
- Continuously reviews and refines curricula and teaching practices through reflective self-assessment.
- Adheres to professional standards and state guidelines relevant to the discipline.
- Actively engages in college meetings, committees, and councils.
- Participates in college initiatives such as student recruitment, retention efforts, and community outreach.
- Involves in activities that support student organizations and enhance retention.
- Engages with local businesses and community organizations to promote the college's mission and values.
- Contributes to maintaining program and institutional accreditation standards.
- Assists in establishing departmental objectives and developing budgets that align with these goals.
- Fosters and maintains partnerships with other educational institutions.
- Instructs Dual Credit and Distance Learning courses.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Master's degree with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in English, Literature, Composition/Rhetoric, or a related discipline.
- The institution seeks a dynamic educator with a proven track record in teaching, as evidenced by the applicant's Student Success Statement.
- The ideal candidate will effectively engage with community college students, contribute to student recruitment and retention, and support the overall mission of the department and college.
- The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to the discipline through active professional involvement.
- Experience teaching at a community college or university level is essential.
- Preference will be given to candidates with two (2) or more years of teaching experience in a community college setting.
- Preference will be given to those who have experience teaching dual credit courses or at the high school level.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in distance education.
