University Health Services (UHS) is a recognized on-campus medical facility committed to addressing the diverse healthcare needs of students.
UHS offers a wide range of services, including general medical care, public health education, and specialized clinics.
Position Overview
This role is not eligible for benefits. The technician may work up to 19 hours per week. Refer to the Work Shift section for details.
Primary Responsibilities
- Conduct receptionist, administrative, and clerical tasks for the laboratory.
- Perform analyses and generate reports on patient specimens.
- Collect and process patient specimens for testing.
- Complete miscellaneous duties as scheduled.
- Accept and effectively execute additional responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Laboratory Manager.
- Implement and document laboratory quality control measures.
- Engage in proficiency testing and quality improvement assessments.
- Perform other related functions as required.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program.
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician from the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a 15-week training component as part of the degree program.
- Proven ability to operate clinical laboratory equipment.
- Experience and moderate proficiency in using personal computers.
- Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with a diverse community, providing services in a non-judgmental manner.
- Relevant education and experience may be considered as substitutes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in a laboratory setting performing moderate complexity testing.
Compensation
Hourly wage: $24.51
Work Environment
- Standard office conditions may apply.
- Potential exposure to biohazards.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation.
- Manual dexterity required.
- Lifting and moving may be necessary.
- Exposure to chemicals and materials typically found in medical and office settings.
Work Schedule
Up to 19 hours per week.
Laboratory hours: 8 AM – 5:30 PM, Monday – Friday.
Occasional weekend and holiday shifts may be assigned.
Specific scheduling will be discussed during the interview process.
