Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:

The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory tests and procedures to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform receptionist, administrative, and clerical duties for the Laboratory
  • Perform analyses and report on patient specimens
  • Obtain patient specimens and process them for testing
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as scheduled
  • Accept and satisfactorily complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Laboratory Manager
  • Perform and document laboratory quality control
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement evaluations

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an approved school with a two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program
  • Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Successful completion of 15-week training as part of degree program
  • Demonstrated ability to operate clinical laboratory equipment
  • Experience with and a moderate comfort level using a personal computer
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of experience in a laboratory performing moderate complexity testing

Working Conditions:

  • May work around standard office conditions
  • May work around biohazards
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • Lifting and moving
  • Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in offices, medical clinics, and building repairs/maintenance

Work Shift:

  • 8AM - 5:30PM, Monday - Friday
  • Occasional weekend and holiday work, as assigned
  • Schedule will be discussed during interview
