Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Summary:
The University of Texas at Austin is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for performing clinical laboratory tests and procedures to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform receptionist, administrative, and clerical duties for the Laboratory
- Perform analyses and report on patient specimens
- Obtain patient specimens and process them for testing
- Perform miscellaneous duties as scheduled
- Accept and satisfactorily complete other duties as assigned by the Associate Director and Assistant Laboratory Manager
- Perform and document laboratory quality control
- Participate in proficiency testing and quality improvement evaluations
Requirements:
- Graduate from an approved school with a two-year Medical Laboratory Technician program
- Certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent
- Successful completion of 15-week training as part of degree program
- Demonstrated ability to operate clinical laboratory equipment
- Experience with and a moderate comfort level using a personal computer
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work with a diverse community and provide services from a non-judgmental perspective
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two or more years of experience in a laboratory performing moderate complexity testing
Working Conditions:
- May work around standard office conditions
- May work around biohazards
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- Lifting and moving
- Exposure to chemicals and commercial items typically found in offices, medical clinics, and building repairs/maintenance
Work Shift:
- 8AM - 5:30PM, Monday - Friday
- Occasional weekend and holiday work, as assigned
- Schedule will be discussed during interview
