The Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services is in search of a skilled and visionary leader to take on the role of Director of the Massachusetts Cancer Registry within the Office of Population Health. This pivotal position will be tasked with guiding the initiatives of the Cancer Registry and ensuring the provision of high-quality, timely population-level cancer data, which is essential for effective cancer prevention, control planning, evaluation, and research.
The Director will manage a dedicated team of certified tumor registrars, epidemiologists, and operational staff, ensuring the efficient capture, management, reporting, and surveillance of all cancer cases diagnosed and treated in the state. This role presents a unique opportunity to shape public health policies and programs, making significant contributions to the reduction of health disparities across the Commonwealth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the development, management, and execution of significant grant proposals, including those related to national cancer registry programs.
- Supervise a team of professionals responsible for data capture, management, reporting, and cancer surveillance across the state.
- Ensure compliance with legislative mandates for cancer case collection and maintain up-to-date policies and procedures.
- Direct data collection efforts from hospitals, treatment centers, and laboratories to guarantee data completeness and quality.
- Lead strategic planning efforts to modernize registry operations through innovative data exchange and informatics methods.
- Enhance productivity and efficiency by developing new policies and procedures for cancer reporting.
- Engage with reporting facilities to communicate requirements and updates in cancer registration.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of internal software systems for data reporting.
- Advance the efficiency of statewide cancer reporting, incorporating molecular diagnostics and treatment information.
- Represent the registry on various national and state committees, contributing to cancer surveillance and registry modernization initiatives.
- Support special projects aimed at data modernization and equity-centered data strategies.
- Prepare materials and presentations for conferences and serve as a liaison for cancer data initiatives.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of six years of professional experience in a relevant field, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Relevant certifications or degrees may substitute for required experience.
Preferred Skills:
- Proven leadership experience with diverse teams.
- Strong understanding of management principles and public health surveillance.
- Expertise in cancer epidemiology and research methodologies.
- Proficiency in data management software.
