Job Summary

The Cancer Registrar II is a critical role at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, responsible for identifying, registering, and abstracting patients with cancer. This involves reviewing and analyzing hospital records and medical reports to collect relevant cancer data, classifying demographics, primary site, histology, stage, and treatment, and performing annual patient follow-up as needed. The successful candidate will meet the standards of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, the Massachusetts State Cancer Registry, the New Hampshire State Cancer Registry, the DF/BCC Cancer Registry, Disease Centers, clinicians, researchers, and administrators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Abstract complex cancer sites
  • Analyze multiple medical documents to classify and code cancer data
  • Apply skilled judgment to identify missing information and resolve conflicting data
  • Work with various computer systems for data collection and report production
  • Collaborate with physicians, clinicians, researchers, and administrative staff to collect and report cancer data

Requirements
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree optional
  • Minimum of two years abstracting experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, and data entry/computer experience
  • Certified Tumor Registrar (ODS-certified)
