Position Title: Assistant Chef

Reports To: Head Chef of Private Estate

Job Overview

We are in search of a committed and skilled culinary assistant to enhance our household team at a private estate. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Executive Chef, overseeing the preparation and management of food and beverages across all properties. This role offers a distinctive opportunity to thrive in a close-knit, dynamic environment where meticulousness and a love for culinary arts are paramount. The standard working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a requirement for flexibility to meet client demands, which may include:

  • Occasional evening shifts
  • Weekend duties
  • Holiday work

Key Responsibilities

Culinary Duties: Support the Executive Chef in meal planning, grocery procurement, and preparation for all meals served. Prepare dishes according to the chef's specifications, ensuring high standards of flavor and presentation. Source and order premium ingredients, monitor inventory, and guarantee freshness.

Sanitation and Organization: Consistently prioritize kitchen cleanliness and food safety. Maintain an orderly and hygienic kitchen environment, complying with health and safety standards.

Communication: Foster clear and open communication with the Executive Chef and fellow team members.

Inventory Oversight: Assist in managing the inventory of food and beverages across all properties.

Adaptability: Demonstrate the ability to adjust to last-minute schedule changes, unexpected location shifts, and other unforeseen circumstances, with a focus on solution-oriented approaches.

Qualifications:

Culinary Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • Strong foundation in diverse cuisines, ingredients, and cooking techniques
  • Proficiency in essential skills, including:

Butchery: Basic meat handling and preparation

Baking: Fundamental pastry and dessert preparation

Pasta-making: Basic hand-crafted pasta skills

  • Experience in events and catering (preferred)

Physical Endurance: While performing the responsibilities of this role, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands for handling or feeling, reach with hands and arms, communicate verbally, and taste or smell. The team member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication abilities with the capacity to follow instructions and convey information effectively.

Transportation: Reliable personal transportation is necessary.

Additional Responsibilities: Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Executive Chef or Property Manager.

Work Environment: Work is conducted indoors in a temperature-controlled setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $25.00 per hour

Expected Hours: 40 hours per week plus overtime as needed
