Job Overview

The Department of Forestry & Fire Protection is seeking a skilled Communications Supervisor to join our team. As a key member of our communications team, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of internal and external communications.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. As a Communications Supervisor, you will have the chance to develop and implement effective communication strategies that engage stakeholders and promote the department's mission.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of internal and external communications, including press releases, social media, and public outreach programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media representatives, community leaders, and government officials.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels.
  • Analyze and report on the effectiveness of communication campaigns and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures to ensure timely and accurate communication during crisis situations.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in communications or a related field, preferably in a government or public sector setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically.
  • Experience with social media platforms and content management systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines.

Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings plan, and paid time off.

Working Conditions

This position requires occasional travel to fire incidents and emergency response sites. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing circumstances.

Special Requirements

  • Background Investigation clearance required prior to hire.
  • Medical Clearance required prior to hire.

Tau Appointments

Please note that TAU appointments are made under temporary authorization and are subject to the California State Constitution. This means that your appointment will be terminated after 9 months if you do not apply for a permanent appointment within that timeframe.
