Public Health Specialist, Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation

**Job Summary**
The City of New York's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking a highly skilled Public Health Specialist to join the Bureau of Food Safety and Community Sanitation. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in protecting the public's health by conducting environmental health inspections, enforcing regulations, and promoting healthy behaviors.
**Responsibilities**
- Conduct regular inspections of food service establishments, commercial establishments, and places of employment to ensure compliance with health codes and regulations.
- Enforce provisions of the Smoke-Free Air Act and other tobacco-related regulations to create a smoke-free environment and reduce access to tobacco products for minors.
- Review menu boards and menus to ensure compliance with nutritional requirements and promote healthy eating habits.
- Prepare and serve court summonses for specific violations of applicable laws and regulations.
- Testify in court as needed.
- Travel throughout the five boroughs using mass transit.
**Requirements**
- An Associate Degree or 60 credits from an accredited college with at least 12 credits in the physical or biological sciences.
- Three years of satisfactory, full-time paid experience conducting environmental health inspections.
- Education and/or experience equivalent to the above.
