POSITION SUMMARY:


The Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering direct patient care in alignment with company policies and the standards of the healthcare facilities. This role encompasses a variety of clinical practices, including but not limited to hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, and ultrafiltration.

The Inpatient RN collaborates with hospital staff to ensure high-quality patient care and enhance the overall patient experience.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


With limited supervision, the Inpatient RN utilizes extensive knowledge to execute a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:

  • Providing direct patient care across multiple treatment modalities such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis.
  • Supervising and guiding Patient Care Technicians and clerical personnel; offering direction and training to ICU staff regarding CRRT.
  • Managing the care of assigned patients within the Inpatient Renal Replacement and Apheresis Services, ensuring adherence to prescribed treatment protocols.
  • Evaluating patient responses to therapies and making necessary adjustments to treatment plans in collaboration with credentialed physicians.
  • Communicating effectively with the Inpatient Program Manager, physicians, and nursing staff regarding patient care issues.
  • Delivering organized and clear shift reports for patients under care.
  • Adjusting patient schedules to prioritize critical cases based on lab results and physician orders.
  • Administering and monitoring intradialytic transfusions, documenting patient responses, and notifying physicians of any adverse reactions.
  • Collaborating with healthcare professionals to interpret and coordinate patient care plans, ensuring continuity and quality of care.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of all treatment activities in patient records and hospital systems.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and disinfection of dialysis equipment and treatment areas in accordance with established protocols.
  • Conducting required safety tests and maintaining equipment functionality.
  • Participating in quality assurance initiatives and staff training as required.
  • Acting as a resource for hospital staff regarding dialysis-related patient and equipment issues.
  • Reporting any unusual incidents or concerns to management as per company protocols.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:


This role involves direct patient interaction and requires travel between various healthcare facilities. The position may necessitate on-call duties, including nights, weekends, and holidays. There is a potential risk of exposure to infectious materials and the physical demands of the job include lifting and moving patients and equipment.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:


Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse is required. Candidates should maintain up-to-date knowledge in nephrology, particularly concerning inpatient care practices. Certification in Nephrology Nursing or Apheresis Nursing is highly encouraged.


EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:


A minimum of one year of RN experience is required, with at least six months of nephrology experience necessary before working independently. Strong assessment skills and the ability to manage critically ill patients are essential. Completion of relevant training in ESRD patient care is required, along with BLS CPR certification; ACLS CPR certification is preferred.
