POSITION SUMMARY:


The Inpatient Registered Nurse (RN) delivers comprehensive patient care in alignment with company protocols and the policies of affiliated healthcare facilities. This role encompasses a variety of clinical practices, including but not limited to hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies, apheresis, and ultrafiltration.

The Inpatient RN collaborates with hospital staff to ensure optimal patient care and a favorable patient experience.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


With minimal supervision, the RN utilizes extensive knowledge to execute a wide range of responsibilities, which include direct patient care across multiple treatment modalities such as hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, ultrafiltration, continuous renal replacement therapy, and apheresis.


Supervises and guides Patient Care Technicians and administrative personnel; provides education and direction to ICU staff regarding CRRT.


Accountable for the direct care of assigned patients within the Inpatient Renal Replacement and Apheresis Services environment, ensuring the delivery of appropriate treatment as per established protocols for each modality.


Evaluates patient responses to therapeutic interventions, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans as directed by qualified medical professionals.

Communicates any issues or concerns to the Inpatient Program Manager, the attending physician, and other relevant personnel.

Delivers safe and effective care in a timely manner.

Provides organized and clear shift reports for patients during assigned shifts.

Employs critical thinking skills to adjust patient schedules based on the needs of more critical patients due to laboratory results, physician orders, or patient assessments.


Responsible for the implementation, administration, monitoring, and documentation of patients' responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including timely notification of any adverse reactions to the physician and relevant blood suppliers.


Collaborates with physicians and healthcare team members to interpret, modify, and coordinate daily patient care plans to ensure continuity of care.

Initiates communication with FMS facility nursing staff and hospital personnel as necessary.

Accurately documents all treatment information in the patient record and hospital documentation as required.


Cleans and disinfects dialysis equipment and surrounding areas between treatments according to established policies and procedures.

Conducts all preparatory tasks for dialysis treatment and documents appropriately.

Performs all necessary pre-treatment dialysis machine alarm testing.

If applicable, initiates Solution Delivery System.


Operates all related equipment safely and effectively, providing minor troubleshooting as needed; efficiently utilizes supplies to minimize waste.


Understands and conducts necessary safety tests and documentation for dialysis and apheresis machines, ensuring compliance with company standards.

Participates in ongoing quality assurance initiatives.

Engages in scheduled staff meetings.

Contributes to staff training and orientation as assigned.

Acts as a resource for hospital staff regarding dialysis-related patient and equipment issues.


Responsible for reporting any unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to the inpatient manager in accordance with reporting requirements.

May be assigned to in-center patient care as needed.


Adheres to the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and regulations.

Assists with various projects as directed by the supervisor.

Other responsibilities as assigned.

This position involves direct patient care, interaction with patients, outpatient clinicians, hospital staff, and physicians. The role requires travel between assigned facilities and attendance at regional meetings or educational events.

Position includes on-call responsibilities, which may involve nights, weekends, and holidays.

Potential exposure to infectious materials and contagious diseases is possible.


This role involves direct patient care, which may require heavy lifting and moving of patients and/or equipment exceeding 200 lbs (with assistance); may also involve lifting chemical and water solutions weighing up to 30 lbs to heights of 5 feet.


SUPERVISION:


Provides oversight and guidance to Patient Care Technicians (Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technicians) and administrative staff; offers education and direction to ICU personnel regarding CRRT.


EDUCATION:
Current state licensure is required.


Maintains knowledge of advancements in nephrology, particularly concerning inpatient care for patients requiring various treatment modalities.

Certification in Nephrology Nursing, Apheresis Nursing, or both is highly encouraged.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
A minimum of one year of RN experience is required, along with necessary nursing competencies.


At least six months of nephrology experience is required before independently providing dialysis and ultrafiltration services.

A minimum of six months of nephrology experience is required before independently providing apheresis services.

Demonstrated strong assessment skills for critically ill patients are essential.

ICU experience is preferred but not mandatory.


Successful completion of training in the care of ESRD patients is required.

BLS CPR certification is required.

ACLS CPR certification is preferred but not mandatory.

Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills, along with a commitment to ongoing education in Renal/Nephrology.

Exhibits leadership abilities and the capacity to supervise others effectively.

Successful completion of Nurses Technical Training is required.
