Ostomy and Wound Care Registered Nurse

A clinical specialist responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients with ostomies and complex wound management. This role involves providing expert consultation for individuals with compromised skin integrity, including pressure ulcers and intricate wounds.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop nursing care plans for patients with post-operative stomas and altered skin integrity.
2. Collaborate with nursing staff and case management to facilitate effective discharge planning that addresses the wound and ostomy needs of patients.
3. Deliver outpatient care to evaluate and assist patients with ostomies or skin integrity issues post-discharge.
4. Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding ostomy surgery and management of existing stomas.
5. Serve as a resource for nursing staff, offering guidance on the care of patients with ostomies and skin integrity challenges.
6. Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to ostomy care and pressure ulcer prevention.
Qualifications:
Upon Hire:
- Valid Washington Registered Nurse License
- BLS Certification from the American Heart Association
Within Two Years of Hire:
- Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN) certification
- Experience in managing both simple and complex wounds and ostomies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Commitment to obtaining a BSN within five years if not already held.
Professional Development:
