Job Overview

The Head of Strategic Procurement will be responsible for overseeing all strategic procurement initiatives. The primary goal will be to enhance overall cost efficiency and value creation. To achieve this goal, the Head will need to exhibit a comprehensive understanding of advanced procurement and supply chain management methodologies, including: strategic procurement; data-driven negotiation; total cost analysis; market research; supplier relationship management; supply chain optimization; and global sourcing strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and execute detailed procurement strategies that align with the company's goals.
  • Conduct project assessments to evaluate the scope, required resources, potential savings, risks, and implementation strategies.
  • Lead and mentor cross-functional teams in the execution of global procurement strategies, focusing on cost reduction and resource allocation.
  • Deliver effective communication, both written and verbal, including formal presentations to senior management and the corporate supply chain team.
  • Collaborate with logistics providers to benchmark and uncover cost-saving opportunities.
  • Develop and adjust project work plans as necessary to accommodate evolving needs and requirements.
  • Oversee corporate procurement initiatives, ensuring adherence to project timelines and financial objectives.
  • Identify necessary resources and delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Manage relationships with both new and existing suppliers.
  • Supervise daily operational aspects of procurement projects.
  • Prepare documentation for project review meetings.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts to secure favorable terms.
  • Mitigate risks associated with procurement projects.
  • Oversee the workflow process for procurement activities.
  • Establish supplier performance metrics and conduct quarterly evaluations.
  • Communicate relevant project updates to management effectively.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance procurement efficiency.
  • Ensure supplier agreements include precise specifications, quality benchmarks, and delivery timelines, enforcing compliance with quality standards.
  • Deliver compelling, informative, and well-structured presentations.
  • Develop and maintain supply and cost tracking metrics for regular reporting and early identification of potential supply chain issues.
  • Address and escalate issues promptly as needed.
  • Encourage team development and serve as a mentor and role model.
  • Identify areas for improvement and propose constructive changes.
  • Stay updated on emerging industry trends and practices.
  • Inspire teamwork and collaboration for optimal efficiency.
  • Establish and maintain internal procurement policies to uphold the highest ethical standards and controls.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or Engineering; MBA preferred.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems is essential.
  • Proven success in project management with a track record of meeting deadlines and budgetary goals.
  • 7+ years of experience in sourcing and managing direct materials, with preference for candidates experienced in metals, hardware, and fasteners.
  • Demonstrated skills in team leadership, management, and consensus-building.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Experience in global supply chain management, particularly in international sourcing.
  • Strong financial analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to conduct cost analysis for procurement decisions.
  • Exceptional analytical and data visualization skills, with experience in strategic sourcing tools.
  • Self-driven with a proven record of achieving results.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong collaborative skills across functions.
  • Hands-on experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing supplier relationships.
  • Experience in executing outsourcing and insourcing initiatives.
  • Knowledge of contract law and compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of integrated supply chain best practices.
  • Demonstrated project management expertise.
  • Six Sigma and/or LEAN manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.
