Job Title: Before and After School Program Assistant Teacher

We are seeking a qualified and enthusiastic Before and After School Program Assistant Teacher to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids. As a key member of our program, you will play a vital role in providing a safe, fun, and engaging environment for children to prepare for their school day and unwind from it.

Job Summary:

The Before and After School Program Assistant Teacher will assist in the planning, developing, and implementing of classroom activities for programs. This role requires weekday availability, with schedules varying between 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Site Coordinator in developing and leading daily lesson plans
  • Prepare materials for daily activities
  • Maintain records of attendance, arrival, and departure times
  • Provide weekly lesson plans to parents
  • Provide each participant's parent with information on individual activities on a daily basis
  • Maintain supervision of children
  • Assist Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as needed
  • Maintain the quality and quantity of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom
Requirements:
  • Six months to one year youth development related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles
  • Ability and desire to work with school age children

Compensation:

$18.28 per hour, non-exempt, part-time (up to 25 hours/week)

This position offers a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both before school program hours and after school program hours in the same day.
