New York, New York, United States Bank Street Full time

Join Bank Street, a leader in education and a pioneer in improving classroom practice, as a Lead Educator in our dynamic After School Program. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to support the growth and development of students aged 4-10 in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Company Overview

Bank Street is a national advocate for children and their families, with a legacy of understanding how children learn and grow. Our graduate school trains teachers in a model that combines human development, learning theory, and clinical placement to promote significant development before graduation.

Role Summary

The Lead Educator will support the After School "Kids Club" program, a childcare program that cares for School for Children students from dismissal until timed pickup by families. Under the supervision of the After School Director, the Lead Educator will create a supportive and collaborative classroom environment and use classroom management skills to run and support an energetic classroom of children.

Responsibilities

The Lead Educator's responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Leading a classroom of 15-20 students in a schedule of activities including snack time, outdoor play, and classroom free play activities.
  • Taking daily attendance and ensuring that students participating in after school enrichment classes are dropped off and picked up from their classes in a timely manner.
  • Mediating conflicts between students and helping them work towards resolution.
  • Reporting any incidents or conflicts to the After School Director.
  • Participating as a member of a collaborative, cooperative after school program - sharing information and strategies to sustain a healthy classroom community.
  • Overseeing the safe transfer of children to after school and dismissal to authorized adults.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a High School diploma and a Bachelor's degree, with experience managing a classroom and teaching children. Experience with progressive education and prior experience working as part of the Bank Street community are preferred. The successful candidate will be willing to collaborate and work as part of a team, as well as develop skills in working with individual children, small groups, and the whole class.

About Bank Street

Our children's programs foster children's development in the broadest sense by providing diverse opportunities for social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth. The Bank Street Education Center supports and influences positive outcomes for children every day through professional development programs, research projects, and other key efforts engaging educators, intermediary organizations, and government officials at the district, state, and federal levels.
